The Missed-Call Test
Video coming soon
How the test works
Friend calls at your busiest hour
No message left
Start the clock
Time to call back = your leak
This test costs nothing and takes five minutes. It measures the most expensive problem in most detailing shops: the phone that rings while the owner's hands are busy.
How to run it
- Ask a friend to call your shop during your busiest hour, from a number you do not recognize.
- Have him leave no message.
- Count how long it takes your shop to get back to him, if it does at all.
- Write the number down. That number is the size of your problem, measured in hours.
Why it matters
A Harvard Business Review study of 2,241 companies found the average business took 42 hours to answer a web inquiry. Companies that replied within an hour were nearly seven times as likely to have a real conversation with the buyer.
Now put it in dollars. Suppose four callers a week go elsewhere. Suppose only one of them would have bought a $2,000 coating. That is more than $8,000 a month leaving your shop without a sound.
Failed the test? We fix this in the first four weeks.
